Where it all began
Clarity Environmental was founded in 2002 by our Managing Director, David Honcoop. Initially trading in packaging recovery notes, the evidence of recycling needed by packaging producers to comply with the regulations, the business experienced rapid and substantial growth and we soon became known as one of the UK's largest traders of PRNs.
Expanding our business
In 2010 we took the decision to re-brand, which reflected our growth into new business divisions. We changed our name from API Trading to Clarity Environmental and a move to our current premises in Woodingdean enabled us to expand the team, which continues to grow today.
Whilst our PRN trading division remains a core part of our business, over the years we have diversified into other areas within the sector, offering a range of environmental compliance, waste management and recycling services. We now operate two successful compliance schemes that assist businesses in meeting the producer responsibility regulations, and collect scrap vehicle batteries, exporting them on behalf of a major international battery manufacturer who uses the materials to make new batteries.
David Honcoop founded the Recycle with Clarity initiative in 2011, creating an ever-growing number of partner waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) recycling sites, which encourages the household recycling of waste electronics. The network continues to grow and works alongside our WEEE compliance scheme to get the best prices possible for our members' obligations, ensuring that we always have their obligation covered.
Going back to our roots
The Adams family has a heritage in the waste industry that goes back over 80 years, and in 2012 we went back to our roots by expanding our waste and recycling division. Responding to rising demand in the industry, we designed a range of waste to fuel services and we now work with waste producers and energy from waste facilities to divert waste from landfill and convert it into fuel. This area of our business is growing quickly and we manage an expanding network of refuse derived fuel (RDF) and solid recovered fuel operations (SRF). We work across the whole UK as well as the overseas waste to energy sector, including waste producers, waste to fuel processors and energy recovery plants to convert waste to energy.
Our story doesn't end there. We are an ambitious team and pride ourselves on our ability to evolve alongside new technologies, and adapt to changes in the industry. We are proud of what we have achieved so far and look forward to seeing where we can take the business in the future.
