Why will EPR cost packaging producers more?

The estimated cost that packaging producers currently pay for the collection, treatment and recycling of packaging products is around 10% of the full net cost. The changes to legislation and the introduction of EPR will mean that packaging producers could be paying up to 10 times more than their previous costs of compliance.

One of the main differences in funding will be packaging producers will be funding local authorities’ collection of kerbside materials, which is currently financed primarily through taxpayers.
