Trussell Trust
The Trussell Trust is on a pledge to stop UK hunger. The charity has over 1,200 food bank centres in their UK network which they use to provide emergency support to those in need. The charity reported a soaring 81% increase for emergency food parcels from food banks in its network during the last two weeks of March 2020. Our donation of £2,000 meant 200 families could be sure they wouldn’t go hungry that night. The Trussell Trust Head of Corporate Partnerships, Sophie Carre, said of our donation: “We’re delighted Clarity Environmental have chosen to support the Trussell Trust and we thank them for their generous donation. No one should need to use a food bank, but with food banks reporting an 89% increase in need for emergency food parcels in April 2020 compared to the same month last year, with a staggering 107% rise in parcels for children, their support is more vital than ever”.
Medical Detection Dogs
Medical Detection Dogs trains dogs to detect the odour of human disease. The charity is at the forefront of the research into the fight against cancer and helping people with life-threatening diseases. This year the charity has been applying its expertise to investigate whether medical detection dogs can be trained to detect Covid-19. We donated £2,500 to the project which has attracted backing from the UK government and public donations. The charity started first-stage training of the dogs they identified as having the potential for this work and continue to look for funding to provide greater resources for training the dogs.
Keep Britain Tidy
The annual Great British Spring Clean litter picking event is being held from 11 – 27 September. Whilst many of us have enjoyed our outdoor spaces more than ever this year, they have sadly also been left littered with more rubbish. We chose to support this campaign once again, with a £1,000 donation, helping to encourage people to pledge to pick and take action to look after our parks, woodlands and urban environments.
Refuge
In the UK, 1.6 million women experienced domestic abuse last year, and self-isolation has the potential to aggravate pre-existing abusive behaviours by perpetrators. Refuge is one charity that supports women and children facing domestic violence. Since lockdown began, calls and contacts to its National Domestic Abuse Helpline have rocketed by around 50%. Our £1,000 donation helped the charity who needed urgent funds to help meet demand.
Age UK
The coronavirus pandemic has changed life for most of us, but older people are among the hardest hit. The older generation have never needed us more and Age UK are working hard to support them through this crisis. Our donation of £1,000 will help support the organisation to deliver vital food parcels, home from hospital help and operate a telephone helpline service.
In addition to the charities mentioned, this year we have also supported The Wildlife Trusts with a £6,500 donation and The Marine Conservation Society, sponsoring their Great British Beach Clean quiz night.
