Attracting big brands to our business: Our five priorities

Next year will mark 20 years since the introduction of the packaging regulations (Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) Regulations), which were designed to reduce the amount of packaging waste that ends up in landfill. The regulations place responsibilities for businesses to recover and recycle a certain amount of the packaging waste they handle each year.

We’ve been assisting businesses that are obligated under the regulations since 2002, enabling those that handle packaging to reduce their impact on the environment. We help our members apply the regulations to their company packaging, ensuring the data compilation process is as efficient and accurate as possible, and offer assistance to our members with calculating their packaging obligations.

Our packaging compliance scheme has experienced impressive growth since it was first established, as a result of our tailored services, and our specialist team pack a punch when it comes to doing business. We are proud to be attracting some large brands and household products to our scheme and are also amongst the top businesses handling packaging recovery notes (PRNs).

What is it that makes Clarity Environmental so popular with packaging producers? We believe it’s down to the way we do business. Clarity is more than just a name for us, it’s how we work; operating in a clear, transparent and coherent way. Thanks to a long heritage in the waste industry (my family has worked in the waste sector for over 80 years), we know a lot about building long-running, successful relationships with other businesses and have developed a market-leading service by focussing on five key priorities.

Alongside all the usual business requirements, such as maintaining our ISO accreditations, these five simple qualities have led us to become a popular choice for compliance amongst packaging producers.

1)      Be flexible

We put our customers first and operate the opposite of a ‘one size fits all’ approach, treating each business as an individual and providing a wide choice of options that can be tailored to business needs.

2)      Be safe

We understand that environmental compliance can be a daunting prospect and no-one wants to take risks. We pride ourselves in offering safe compliance. With our experience in environmental regulations and waste management, alongside purchasing expertise as one of the UK’s leading PRN traders, we have our members packaging obligation covered each year.

3)      Be ethical

Our business has grown from ethical foundations and we take pride in operating in a fair and honest manner. We also care about our environment and seek the most sustainable methods of running our business.

4)      Be affordable

We work hard to keep the costs of compliance affordable, offering the most cost-effective solutions in all aspects of our business. Thanks to our experience in the marketplace, our members benefit from low cost compliance and some of the lowest priced PRNs available.

5)     Be clear

Whilst environmental legislation is every day business for us, we understand that this is not always the case for others. We are passionate about communicating with our customers in a clear, coherent manner.

If your business produces or handles more than 50 tonnes of packaging and you have a turnover of more than £2 million you will need to comply with the Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) Regulations. At Clarity Environmental, our packaging compliance members benefit from a full suite of consultative and support services, market-leading expertise and ongoing support and training. If you would like to take advantage of the benefits we provide, talk to us about joining our scheme or to get a no-obligation quote.

Packaging compliance is not all we do at Clarity. We also offer WEEE compliance membership and a range of waste management and recycling solutions, diverting waste from landfill across our expanding network of refuse derived fuel (RDF) and solid recovered fuel (SRF) operations. Alongside this, we have a market-leading PRN division and our trade in scrap lead acid batteries continues to thrive. This business diversity means our customers can get expert advice on many aspects of their waste and recycling.

David Adams established Clarity Environmental in 2002, initially focussing on the sale of packaging recovery notes (PRNs). Since then, our business has grown and diversified. David works on brand development, negotiating larger contracts, risk analysis and ensures the continued smooth running of the business.
